Bosque del Apache - Tundra Swans, Great Blue Heron, Kestrel, Bald Eagle, Golden Eagle, Buffle Head Duck, Ring Neck Duck - Oh my...
My most recent trip to BdA was to hunt for the Tundra Swans that had been spotted down there. Evidently, they were significantly off course, and likely should have hired an experienced navigator for the trip, but alas, here they are in New Mexico! The 3 seemed to be all adults or perhaps 2 adults with a juvenile. Those photos were taken with 600mm, and massively cropped. To the naked eye, they were just balls of white. The photos of the solo swan were of a juvenile who was hanging out at a small pond, perhaps 5 miles from the others. The Bald Eagle is a "regular" at BdA, as are the Goldens. They were also at an extreme distance, feeding on some kill I couldn't identify. The herons are regulars too, although I've never seen more than one at a time. This day, I saw 4. It was a bitter cold and very windy day, but any day is a good day down there...
