I shot this at the beach when an old Spanish ship was just leaving port. The dark water and ominous clouds created a threatening but beautiful scene. I used my Canon Powershot S21S, with an aperture of 4.5 and a shutter speed of 1/1000. Please comment on a critique my photos!

Very nice shot of an old four masted schooner; there aren't too many of them around anymore.
Since you asked, my first suggestion concerns the storm clouds above the ship. If they were enhanced in post processing, I think it is a bit over done, meaning that they are so dark, they draw attention away from the vessel. If that's "the way it was", I think I would have lightened them a little. Second, I would have perhaps tried to crop a bit closer; you don't need to show that much water and the vessel would be somewhat more prominent.
Both of those comments are just my personal preferences; it is still a nice shot!
Nice shot. That camera has long been on the discontinued list.
Lovely shot of a beautiful ship.
She's the Juan Sebastian Elcano I believe. A steel hulled training ship. built early 1900's. She holds the record for most miles traveled by a sailing ship.
Nice photo! Colors and composition are great. As mentioned, the clouds do begin to overwhelm a bit, but I wouldn't tone them down at all. Instead, you might crop the top a little by using the 16x9 format. But it's a good one as it is, and it's your photo, so you've done it your way, and that's fine.
Thanks for the input. How about this? Or do I crop it a little more?

That's better, I think, but I'd go to a full 16x9 format. Whatever crop, I like the photo a lot!
I really like this image. It symbolizes courage to me - the relatively small ship (comparatively) sailing comfidently at full sail into omnisity (is that a word?). And in my opinion, cropping this scene would not be an option. Seeing a ship in the midst of a huge surroundings is part of the beauty of the occurence. It does, however, look a bit "overworked." And, it may be my astigmatism, but it looks just a couple of degrees off level. No one else has mentioned it, so it must be my eyes. There is a lot of grain showing in the clouds. Will the image stand up to enlargment?
Thanks. You are right about the graininess. I made the clouds stand out a little more, which made it not as good quality. It does look too overdone. I edited this a long time ago. At that time, I had just started editing my photos, and I was overdoing it. I will try to tone down the editing. How is this? Any other suggestions?
I think that's a lot better.
