I've been doing that without an app for years.

Share with us how you do it. What software do you use?
If you have an system that works for you that is great, thought this might be a great way to have an app specifically for photography use

I'm old enough that I know how to do things without a computer and software.
I take a piece of paper and I write down the pertinent information.

Now where did I put that piece of paper? I know it's in here somewhere.

I keep it in a folder that I keep with my photography books and manuals.
You can also sign up for a free account at "
www.lenstag.com", I would recommend you look at this program. It places values on your listed equipment and also if buying used equipment from ebay or craigs list you can check to see if has been reported stolen.
Clever, and the price is right. I'll wait for the Android version.
The app is more in depth than just an app to make a list of your camera equipment, it also allows you to document, the cost of the pieces of equipment, add receipts to show value or when the equipment was purchased, actually attach a photo of each piece of equipment if you wish. The app also provides a way to organize your equipment into categories. In the event your are the victim of a theft the app also enables you to reference a police report or case number with the serial number of the item. The app also allows storing your equipment in your personal password protected area. The app also allows connections with insurors, to see plans that you might be interested in using to provide insurance protection for your equipment. I recall many times I have seen the question asked about camera insurance providers.
I also agree that Lens tag is also a great tool

I downloaded and started using. One problem they will have to fix is the date purchased section will not enter. You can select it but there is no way to enter it after the selection.
