Pentax M42 to K mount Adapter lock spring yes or no?

with the spring the adapter locks on the body and can be a pig to remove.
Without the adapter stays on the lens but the bayonet isn't locked.

really poor examples have a screw that is too long and digs into the m42 thread damaging the lens.

So whats your preference with m42 lenses on pentax bodies , do you ever get light leaks with the thin m42 lenses?

I never experienced any issues with the pin, like it being hard to remove or any sort of problem, so for me, I like the pin!

The little spring tab is designed to lock into the bayonet. Which means in practice you attach to the m42 lens and then to the bayonet (as any other k mount) For releasing because of the little tab the lens must be unscrewed as an m42 lens. Then to release the m42 Adapter you need to use the release tool compressing the spring tab and turning the adapter in the bayonet mount.

Where i am using an m42 bellows and a lens which isn't free to fully rotate, this can be an issue. The m42 rear thread on the Bellows is on a collar held by a thumb screw so maybe it could be possible to loosen half a turn , loosen the thumb screw rotate the bellows, tighten the thumb screw , loosen half a turn... repeat 6 times trying to ensure the collar is looser than the m42 thread in the adapter...

Maybe that is the answer remove the sprung pin in those 2 situations and keep it for the rest.

I have two Asahi Pentax branded factory Screw Mount to K Mount adapters and never had any issues with either other that they can be a bitch to remove from the mount once you remove the old Takumar lens and want to remove the adapter from the camera body. I find I can release the tiny clip with a tiny screw driver, pen, pencil, nail file, etc. I've used them on many models: K2 DMD, K1000, ME Super, MX, K-100D, K-20D, and K-5(D).

On the topic of Pentax lenses and cameras. Do not ever try to use a vintage Ricoh "K-mount" lens on a Pentax DSLR. The Ricoh lens is slightly different than a true Pentax lens and has a (screw) hole right where the Auto Focus drive pin is on the camera bodies. The Ricoh lenses can get stuck / jammed on a Pentax DSRL. They are fine on a film Pentax SLR. I am not sure about older Sears, and other "K-mount" lenses. Tried mounting such a lens once and nearly ruined my K-5. I luckily was able to get it off.

I would only use genuine Pentax adapters for this. The one I had did have a spring clip and was difficult to remove, but with a long fingernail or small jeweler's screwdriver did come off. I parted with it and my m42 kit some years ago, but I believe that genuine adapters are still available. Post on the Pentax forum for further info.

I think you are referring to 30120 the official Pentax adapter I think they stopped selling them around 7 years ago. They go for rather silly money now. There are always a few on ebay.

There is a kipon m42 adapter which has a flange to press on the m42 pin that is on some lenses (it sometimes doesn't fully work).
Bower made a clone but used a long screw which scrapes the m42 thread damaging the lens thread.
numerous chinese copies from $5-$15
There is also a flanged version this cannot usually get infinity focus this may be the best for bellows and macro.
With one enlarger lens the lens interferes with the bar of a bellows an o ring helps tighten the lens to a working position.

It would be nice to get 2 sets of tubes k mount and m42 that are interchangable but they all seem to use different tube sizes.
