Doc (left) and Oliver (right) were rescues, both longhair mini Dachshunds given to a local rescue group because their very responsible human family had another child on the way and didn't feel they could give the dogs the treatment and care they deserved. A many-decades Dachshunds owner, (standard, smooth-hair kind) I fortunately saw Doc and Oliver advertised on the rescue group's website, and grabbed 'em quickly.
I came to love the Dachshund breed during my 2-1/2 years American military service in Germany during the Occupation of Germany. Still footloose and fancy-free from my several-months service toward the end of WWII, I re-upped for military service in Germany. I was charmed by the Dachshund breed when I saw several of them, usually lying on a bed of blankets during nice weather, on the doorstep of some restaurants in my later-to-be German War Bride's home town near Heidelberg, Germany.
Occasionally, much later, during my War Bride and my many vacations to Germany, I saw the breed in restaurants, resting quietly... after extended walks in the local forests, I was told. All breeds of dogs are allowed in most German restaurants.
Doc and Oliver are just beautiful on their bed of color!
Nice shot of them! I am a fan of Dachshunds too. They're just a short big dog!
Nice image, very colorful.
Doc and Oliver are gorgeous, Jackel! I'm glad they have a good home!
