We have some types of butterflies in So Cal over the winter also but lately they need little scuba outfits and wetsuits to stay warm. Right now it is 49°F and raining so hard my pool looks like it is on a slow boil - plus running over.

Rain what is that ? ? ? I hope to see some soon . . . been 21 days without . . . feather

21 Days without rain, poor baby, our drought has been 5 years and our normal rainfall here where I live is only 10.3 inches.

I'm sure the Highway is needed, but so sorry! Our first trip to Florida was about four years ago, but had made plans to go many times over the years, but seem like something always happened, and would have loved to have seen it about fifty years ago, when we first started planning! Our first trip was to Titusville, to purchased a little use camper van and while there camped several days and visited Merritt Island, and drove the Black Point Trail and could hardly believe all the beautiful birds. We then went back to Middleburg and stayed with our friends and they carried us
to so many of the beautiful places in northern and central Florida. The next winter we went with them to Key West and visited one of their sons which was employed there, and since then have returned to Merritt Island several times and visited a number of other places including St. Augustine, the Everglades, Big Cypress, Okeechobee. and Sanibel Island. We have really enjoy catching a break from the cold and also viewing the lovely birds and scenery near the end of winter! Take Care!

You are welcome, and our first trip was in October, 2012 and saw our first spoonbills before even getting on the trail, plus some beautiful Painted buntings at the visitors centers bird feeder. Our second and third visit was in late February, early March of 2013 and 2014 and the last visit in November of 2015. On this last trip while in the area we also visited Blue Heron Wetlands Treatment Facility and also the South Central Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility, also known as the Viera Wetlands with very positive results. We really didn't expect to see many birds in our last November trip, as we had primarily come to attend a memorial service for a family member in Okeechobee, but were pleasantly surprised, and saw more spoonbills than any previous trip, and also white pelicans and many other wading birds wading birds and a few gators! Take care!

One other thing that I forgot to mention; Dixie Crossroads Restaurant in Titusville is a great place to dine. Excellent fresh seafood and the prices are reasonable. I was told that a lady started the business many years ago and is evidently very good friends with the Astronauts as the walls are covered with signed photos of the missions that these men and women participated in! Also there are paintings and photos of many different kinds of wading birds, mounted fish and so on. It even has a walkway across a small pond where you can feed the resident fish and turtles. We always try to dine their several times while down and wish that we were now being seated! Hope that you guys can make the trip!
