I had some Amazon gift cards burning a hole in my pocket, and so decided to try this new extender - they seem to do a pretty good job of creating Canon-compatible flashes, so why not lenses? I tried it on my Canon 100-400 L (series I) with the 6D.

My overall impression is that it is OK. The focus is a little soft, and there is a little vignette seen at the full telephoto. I think this would be a good addition to a crop-sensor camera. My impression is that images with the full-frame 6D are so sharp that I can crop them and still have a sharper image than that obtained with the 2x tele-extender without cropping.

I don't know if the Canon tele-extender is any better - this one is about 60% less expensive. I think I won't be using it a lot - I can generally hand-hold the 100-400 for daylight photography - to go up to 800mm requires a tripod and cable release, and the results overall are not better. I will have to give it a go with my 70D crop-sensor camera.

I think the 2x tele-extender worked very well in the second photo if that's where you were using your new "Youngnou 2x Teleconverter for Canon." If not, please make your procedure clearer ( I don't understand your other photos - sorry.).

The second photo was taken with just the 100-400 telephoto at its full extension of 400mm. The ones labeled "800mm" were taken with the teleconverter attached. So the great blue heron without the teleconverter but just cropped for the equivalent photo appears quite a bit more sharp. The other photos, at 800mm, were not bad. With the 6D, which is a full-frame camera, I get sharp enough photos that I can crop them right down and still have a sharp photo. I can't do that so much with the crop-sensor 70D that I have - that is why I think this teleconverter might be more helpful with a camera with a smaller sensor.

According to Canon, the 70d will not support center point focusing less than f5.6. The 2x extender will effectively make a f5.6 lens into an f11. I'm experiencing that same issue with a Canon 1.4 extender with a 70d and 100-400 mk2 at 400 and f5.6. The 1.4x/400mm f5.6 combo will work with a 5d3 or the new 80d, however.

And this does not allow automatic focusing with the 6D either - the autofocus sometimes works but hunts a lot, so these were all done with manual focus.
