I'm in a photography contest for my highschool called Skills USA. I must choose 2 of my photos to be printed out and presented to the judges.
It is between 2 of these plant photos and I'm only going to choose one for varietys sake.
Comment what appeals to you

My personal choice would be the image with the leaf, to me it is more unique, has an overall better light quality, nice bokeh, well it just has a lot going on for it (in its favor, the second image is very as well), but the first does speaks to me!
I recommend going with the macro shot of the flower and moth. The leaf shot has some sun glare issues.
I would go for the flower & moth macro shot. I like the blurred background and that the shot was taken at what looks to be close to ground level.
The back lit leaf. Depends on which one the judge/s relate to better, which is usually impossible to know before the judging.
The first one, hands down, for all the reasons speters already stated. The second photo is nice, too, but it doesn't have much going for it as a competitive photo, in my opinion. Remember that photo judges are fickle, and one never knows what they are going to think.
Personally, I really like #1. It looks almost like it was shot with something like Portra 100. I like the composition and while the flare is there, I think it adds to the image. Not that #2 is a nice photo; it is. I just think you might have 20 other people with flower/insect photos. Technical stuff aside, #1 has a "vibe" to it.
Both great but #1 grabs me. More going on and the lighting is great.

Sorry that should have been: Not that #2 isn't a nice photo.
#1 would be my choice.
Are there any specific details, requirements or stipulations for the contest? Or simply enter a photo?
Definitely the first one. It's a much more creative photo. Also, it looks to me like the second one is not sharp. You didn't provide the full file download so I cant tell for sure but a blown focus would disqualifying in a contest
I like the frost-lined leaf that gives the feel of a winter morning. The second is nice but think it needs to be cropped closer to show the moth's interaction with the flower.
