For me it is a bit too dark, I think improvements could be made with and exposure adjustment layer, if you are interested let me know.....I will guess that you know how you wanted to present it and can tell it is well done, in doing so I accept your presentation, so ask what it is that you want to know.....

Haha I'm not sure what I want to know. Yes I wanted a dark menacing feel to it. It is dark. I just gave myself an assignment in lighting and compositing.

Too far. Looks monstrous.

You made it monstrous, what I did was give it some "pop" to make the monstrosity more vivid. It may make it more personal too, where your original is a threat to someone other than the viewer but the more vivid monster is a threat specifically to the viewer. Interesting...

I really like this, the temptation to bring more highlights to the face have been avoided bringing the need to really look at the mystery and intrigue behind it, and the background has just enough power to offer a sinister mystery, and the muted colours add a dark dimension to the overall feel of the picture .For me you have got it spot on.

I would like to have a little context to go with it. I like it, technically, but cannot "connect" with it emotionally. Not sure if I can make myself clear on meaning.

A very ominous look and an ominous looking background...the light from the window, and the reflection work perfectly. Just the right amount of color...a spooky, eerie feeling comes through to me!!,,,looks like who I might run into when I go to meet my maker!!...I'm in trouble!!....excellent work!!

GWR100 was able to put into words what I was struggling with regarding the difference between original (my preference) and apaflo's edit:

"the temptation to bring more highlights to the face have been avoided bringing the need to really look at the mystery and intrigue behind it..."

I also agree with his comments re background and color, and rlaugh's "ominous." Overall though, I'm with Neil's "can't connect emotionally." That's mostly because I prefer my photography happy and pretty

I do applaud your creativity, pt!

I think the face is simply too dark to see any detail.

Greetings pt,

I decided to do a little post processing in Photoshop using a camera raw filter, selectively, to your image to bring out his face just a little more, but still keeping a little mystery to the image. By doing so, I feel the man is portrayed just a tad more, but the mystery and the foggy type background light from the windows on the walls camera right and camera left is still kept so the atmosphere is basically the same for me. I actually kind of light the shot and find it somewhat intriguing.

Please download for best viewing - Thank you.

Best Regards,
Tom

Isn't that the point?

Yes, I do think that's the point, but it's too dark for me.

Just my opinion you understand.....The lighting overpowers the subject for me and keeps my eyes drawn to the brightness on either side and away from the subject. Tom did a good job of normalizing his face but I feel you wanted the darker feel. Since it appears to be ok to re-post your image this is more what I was trying to get across to you. The changes are quite subtle but bring the viewer back to focusing on the face.
