Good lighting?

I had her posing in her bedroom. I only used the ceiling light and picked the angle I thought best. Thoughts?

Those highlights work. The fingernails grab a bit too much of my attention though. You could try it again with the fingertips turned under. Or something. Recolour them purple and make them the point of the photo. (Sorry - just HAD to add that one!)

It looks a bit too soft to me (slightly out of focus due to low light conditions when using auto focus or movement due to 1/60 sec + shutter speed?)

Light is not as flattering as it could be -- needs some light on one side of her face.
And yes, the white fingernails are drawing too much attention away from her eyes and lips.
The lack of a catch light in her eyes really hurts impact and takes the life out of what looks like a beautiful young lady.

Sorry, I did not mean to be so blunt and pithy.

Festina Lente - only just blunt and pithy enough. Ego stuff is over there -> oh, they're not open yet!
I hope Stacy can find something useful in the comments and criticism on the making of that photo. I reckon it's the start of something good, and maybe depends on others' ideas and experience. So.... more blunt-and-pithy!!!

I like your concept Stacy and I think this idea deserves pursuing further. perhaps a white reflector in front or very soft fill flash. I agree that the nails are a distraction and should be toned down but I can see faint catch lights on my monitor and those would be more noticable with some fill light. I think you're on the right track here, don't get discouraged! do what the rest of us do! Shoot a lot and often and keep 5% of what you shoot! I'd like to see you reshoot this or shoot something similar!

While the comments of others have a lot of merit, I am drawn into the softness here because of the artistic quality, and for that reason I like it. It's true the nails are a distraction. If this was my photo, I might apply some artistic effects to make it look less like a photo and more like an impressionistic painting. I would also like to see this redone with the same lighting, sharper focus and toned down manicure.
