Frustrating Electronics

I'm not looking for a solution because I don't think there is one, but you are free to offer ideas.

Remember when you had a TV antenna on the roof, and your phone connected via copper wire directly to Ma Bell? Life was so simple then.

Every few days, my TiVo Mini in the living room cannot find the main TiVo in the other room. It is connected directly by network cable, and the little lights at the terminals are lit, so the connection is good. I have Time Warner cable, TiVo, and a Vizio TV. Calling any one of them only results in them blaming one of the other companies - after they tell me to turn everything off and unplug everything.

I have two separate wireless phone systems in the house, and every so often they stop working. They are plugged into 110v power, and each has a wired phone connection in different rooms. They show the message, "Line in Use." No dial tone, no ringing. Luckily, the standard landline wired phones work fine, so the phone wires are okay.

After a few days, everything will work again. These problems do not occur and repair themselves at the same time, so they are probably not related. Yes, modern electronics can be wonderful, or not.

My guess would be to check modem and router, especially router. I would place it somewhere that's not too far and unobstructed from the items you mention. I stopped having problems when I moved my router from a low position and in a corner in my computer room to 2 feet above my desk (same room) now I get a strong signal throughout my apt. That's where I would start.

The TiVo is wired directly into the router, and the Mini is wired directly to the TiVo master unit. The only wireless component is between the TiVo Mini and the TV, right next to it. The TV knows that the Mini is there, and it's telling me that it can't find the main TiVo unit. Everything else in the house works fine with the router.

If you have teen age children available, yours or a neighbors, have them trouble shoot. It is their world not ours.

I turn everything off for 30 to 60 seconds then back on. This is like rebooting your computer. and everything will work.. some times the weather will interfere or the lines will be worked on by one of the companies at which time I will wait it out. Of course that's not hard to do since I am either sleeping or at work.

I've done that many times, even unplugging everything. I got the TV to work by connecting it to the router switch with a cable. Unfortunately, that doesn't giver me regular TV from the TiVo, but I can watch Netflix and Amazon. I'll try a Chat with TiVo today.

Based on your post record, it look like you buy all the electronics appearing in the market. Maybe interference could be the cause of the problem.

I'd rather just live with them.
