Bet you're gonna cry when you get it. Ever hear, if it sounds too good to be true ...

No U.S. warranty for starters. Lots of junk included.

I have the D7100 and shoot with the 18-200mm VRII 90% of the time. May not be enough reach for you for wildlife and birds but it is a very sharp lens but the price is about $600.00. You may find a refurbished or good used one for a little less.
I agree with Shellback, Adorama, B&H, Cameta or KEH are all reputable firms. You may also check the NikonUSA website for refurbished models.

I do not know anything about cameras but after much research I have just ordered the Nikon D7200 DSLR Camera 9 Lens 18-55 VR +70-300 +500MM + 32GB Best Value Bundle off ebay and hope it is as advertised. This package was $1079 S&H included. I have not seen it yet but looked at the feedback the Co had. - I also listened to the comments on this board to help my decision as I was going to get the Canon T6i. Good Luck in your search

You can't go wrong with the d7200. It is an upgrade from the 7100 and I really like using mine. You got a great deal on the package.
Post pictures, the club would like to see them.

It appears from this add that you may have purchased a grey market body and lenses. The issue with that is that should the camera body or either of the two Nikon lenses ever need repair, Nikon USA will not repair them. If you just purchased this, call the seller and ask if the Nikon pieces have a USA manufacturers warranty, and they will probably tell you it includes a warranty provided by them or some other third party. Hopefully you will never need the warranty. This is the reason why you were able to purchase this package at such a discounted price.

The ad says no US warranty. They are also not processing orders until Monday. Wonder if it could be cancelled before it's processed.

Don't worry about used or refurbished when buying from a reputable dealer. I buy refurbished/used and have been very pleased with the equipment. Other members buy refurbished/used and the comments have been very positive.

Top recommended sites for photo gear (all authorized dealers):
Adorama
B&H Photo & Video
Cameta Camera
KEH Camera

I use Camerata for my refurbished gear.

Just so you specify "Nikon factory refurbished" you can get either a D7100 or D7200 for much less than new. You asked about lenses. I used an 18-200mm on my D7100 for years, but I didn't do wildlife that needs. It was perfect but an 18-140 would have been almost as good.

I noticed a recommendation for the Sony RX. That would be fine for someone who never wants to print bigger than 8x10 images. The so-called 1 inch sensor is actually about 1/3 inch. The images, though fine on the Internet will fall apart when printing. It is not a criticism in general. The RX has always been a super camera, but limited. That limit is built into the physics of the long zoom.

I have purchased several Nikon factory refurbs from Cameta. They also provide, in addition to the Nikon 90 day warranty, their own one year. Not that I have ever needed it. A factory refurb has the advantage of having been tested on a tech bench rather than a statistical sampling of an assembly line.

I know it would be above the budget you want, but serious birders often use a 150-600 mm zoom. Tamron has one for around $800, maybe less used. You might be able to do it with a used D5300, but the D7200 is better, which is what I have. The lens would not be good for other uses, but birding is what you said you wanted to do.

oh dear, The camera and extras are on their way to me already shipped and half way to my house according to the UPS tracking number. They do have a 30 day return with 10% restocking fee. This ol' gal now has some serious thinking to do. Thank you for your replies. Gotta go train dogs now ` I want plenty of pics of this little gal.

Artie,

Given your financial limitations, the best lens for what you have described is the Sigma 18-300mm. It will give you wide angle capability for landscapes and telephoto for wildlife photography. As a bonus, you will be able to experiment with macro photography. The trade off with a lens with that broad of focal length range is that performance is not uniform throughout its focal length range and its widest aperture decreases as you zoom to telephoto, but it will be good enough for your needs for several years.
