I have seen it called both and to tell the truth, it matters not to me what they call it. I can get 2000mm out of it when I need it even though I hardly ever use all it can do. You asked for comments from people who had experience with it and that's all I offered. I'm sorry if my comment was confusing.
If you want to get really, deep-down serious, find a refurbished Sony a6000 for a great price right now and one decent zoom lens. You'll never regret it.
And...BTW. here's a pic I took with either my P510 or my P600. I loved the lighter weight of the P600 and should have kept it, but I got greedy for more zoom. Best wishes with whatever you choose.
Oh and my deepest apology. I just looked back at your title and you asked about a Nikon A900 NOT a P900. I can't remove my posts so please just ignore them.

No worries! Hubby is interested only in a P&S. If it won't fit in his pocket, he won't use it. Used to drive me nuts. Now, I just accept it. As long as I have my Nikons (D5200 & D7200) and a pretty good collection of lenses for them, I'm happy. He just refuses to lug my gear. That is just fine with me since he has a tendency to drop cameras - down mountains, in streams, in the sand. It is amazing that his dead Sony lasted all the years it did. I also have a Canon SX50 - a bridge that goes out to 1200mm which I love to use as a replacement for my Nikons when I need to travel light. Problem is that it really sucks in low light, but I knew that going in. It was that l o n g. reach that I really NEEDED. I also have an older Sony P&S that stays in my pocket when we travel. Had to really strip the gear down for that Antarctica trip.
BTW - that eagle beak just grabs me. What a fabulous shot!
Take care and thanks for the input.

"he has a tendency to drop cameras - down mountains, in streams, in the sand" ... are we married to the same man?
"BTW - that eagle beak just grabs me" ... Thank you. I felt so blessed that it didn't grab me...or my camera!

It's possible! I'm waiting for him to drop it into a toilet - would not surprise me in the least.

LOL! I knew it! We ARE married to the same man. OK, you keep him and MY cameras will be safe. Now all I need is new reading glasses or maybe just to pay closer attention to what I read. Good luck with both, the camera search...and the husband! LOLOL!
