Nikon D5300 malfunction; and Nikon support for Windows is elusive at best

There seem to be Nikon-knowledgeable folk on this list; maybe someone can help me.
I just bought a used D5300; it seems great except that the autofocus on the camera doesn't work. Cleaning the contacts doesn't help, nor trying a known-good lens (my included lens works fine on another 5300).
Where can I get this repaired? Can I repair it myself - I'm pretty good with doing such. BTW, I live in Edmonton Alberta.

Problem number 2: I run Windows 7 on my computer. I tried to download Nikon ViewNX-i for Windows 7. When I got to the “View download page” the Windows icon is greyed out; only the Mac icon works. I haven’t been able to find anything on the Web; every time I find something that says ViewNX-i for Windows 7, the link takes me to the Mac download. Does Nikon not support Windows?
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Anybody have a working link to ViewNX-i for Windows 7?
Thanks for reading this.

Regards, Waldemar

What makes you think the camera's autofocus doesn't work? Does this apply to all lenses for this camera? Has it ever worked in your experience with this body? Is the camera newly purchased? Can you return it since you say used? What lenses are your using and do you know the D5300 doesn't have a focus motor and many older Nikon lenses will not autofocus on this body?

One, use google search to find a repair shop.

Nikonian, if you are reading this, you might want to create a page that list objectively the most reputable ones???

Two, you have various versions of the same program on the Nikon site. Just download the one appropriate for your OS.

This from a thread you created yesterday (Jan 18, 2017)...

Costco does not sell used stuff as far as I know.

Waldemar - Regarding View NX-i for Win7, there is another option. If you can't obtain View NX-i, then the updated version of View NX2 works on Win 7, I'm using it to edit images from both a D5100 and D750.

Is you lens an AF or AFS? That model camera will only autofocus with Nikon AFS lens. CHG CANON alluded to this. Some aftermarket..Sigma etc will also auto focus. I don't know which. Hopefully someone here can speak to that.
Welcome to the forum.

No problem Rong. I think the two new members got together, bought D5300 cameras and posted one the same day just to mess with us.LOL.

Suggestion to Waldemere to follow exacta35's thread and read amfoto's post. Alan is a very knowledge man.

If the other advice given does not solve your problem, and if you bought the camera used from a trusted vendor, you could return it . If you did not buy it from a trusted vendor, then you have no other recourse but to send it out for repair. The money you saved buying it used will no longer be a savings! Live and learn.

You stated you bought this camera used. Any DSLR camera, sooner or later will need a repair. I'm unaware if Nikon cameras purchased in Canada are considered gray market. Surely there must be a Nikon authorized repair facility in Alberta. Or you can check the serial number, and call it in to Nikon to find out. If camera is returnable, do so. Good luck.

The D5300 does not have an autofocus motor in the body, so the issue will be with the lens
View NX-i is for an IOS (Apple) operating system
View NX-2 is for Windows 7 and later

Live and learn - isn't that a fact.
But there's a fine line between generally not trusting people to avoid getting suckered; and choosing to view people more positively. The latter requires taking a chance occasionally. In the case of buying this camera, I can see after the fact that the seller conducted a fairly complex campaign to deceive a buyer, including the use of an accomplice. I got taken, but I hope that doesn't harden my outlook too much.
