Backlight is one of my favorite types of lighting, There are many helpful articles on the internet. Here are some tips written in 2013 by an 18 year old photographer, Greta Tuckte.
1. Choose where you want the sunlight in your frame, then do exposure
2. Block as much light as possible
3. Use wide aperture to achieve lens flare
4. Use low ISO - 100
5. Manual focus works best
6. Shoot RAW images for better editing - experiment with color balance, burn, dodge
7. Practice
