Canon zoom Lens EF-S 17-85mm 4-5.6 IS

I've been watching a few of these on EB for the past few days as I'm thinking about selling mine. Saw one at $102.00 with 2+ days to go. The surprise...to me anyway was that the seller is Seattle Goodwill. But why not. Ebay is just another avenue to move stuff. Anyone here buy at shopgoodwill.com? It is a great place to find stuff. I've done quite well there with Pentax lens but you will find many listings of Canon/Nikon stuff. A few missteps too. They don't take returns. You bid and win, you own it.
I've seen folks paying way more than what you could buy elsewhere. Keh comes to mind where there is a return policy. Possibly, these folks are making an extra donation.
If you buy there please share your experience.

I have owned the title lens. It was brand new and I bought it for 100 USD and resold it for much larger amount. It would fit into the gap between 18-135 and 15-85 all being EFs. I hope this help with your title question.

perhaps change the title if you want the other question answered.

Thanks JR. You may recall a thread about this and the other lens mentioned above. The goodwill question is not that important.

I worked at Goodwill for over 3 years in management and shopped Shopgoodwill.com a lot, but never for photography items. Why? Because, for the most part, they have no way to test the equipment and usually aren't educated to the ins and outs of cameras and the accessories. I've seen how donations are handled and it's usually a fast paced wipe it, tag it, sell it process. For me personally, it's buyer beware when buying anything electrical/technical from that auction site. Not to mention I've seen stuff sell way beyond normal market price. That's my 2 cents.

There are returns on ebay just put that filter in. Also if it comes not as advertised ebay will step in and help as we have had to go that route a couple of times on a lens and a coal holder.

Thanks for your comments. We look at buying online at Goodwill in the same way. $50.00 is usual limit. I've requested additional info/pics of items that interest me and found most sellers to be helpful.

I've bought lots of photographic items at my local Goodwill and other secondhand stores. In fact I've got a Nikon FG sitting here right now that cost me all of $12 (looks and works just fine after I popped in a fresh battery). But buying locally and in person let's me closely inspect things and sometimes even test things a bit. I've avoided some damaged cameras, lenses full of fungus or with flaking coatings. Wouldn't have seen those in online auctions.... so that's pretty risky when there's no right of return.

Alan, thanks for your comments. I've been to many Goodwill stores in Atlanta and in So. Florida. Never found anything worth buying. I look forward to your posts. So informative. I just told a fellow here to read your recent post on Nikon cameras and lens.

I've bought stuff from shopgoodwill.com many times. A couple of years ago you could get some good deals, especially in 'lots' of camera equipment, but now they have so much traffic and there is so much competition that it seems hard to get a good deal. Plus I've had some major issues with photography and stereo equipment that I've bought both from shop goodwill and at their local stores.

I've had much better luck at estate sales, especially on the last day of the sale. Check out estatesales.net if your interested. On the last day of a sale the sales staff can be extremely motivated to sell items since they usually get a percentage of the total sales.

Thanks. I'll check that web site. I've seen buyers bidding some high dollars and overpaying lately. I don't get it but it's not my money.
