I'd not seen this being done before so I was very interested... besides that, it's my home. Our project should be finished by Tuesday. The top photo is pretty obvious but the second shows what had to be added to our original box on the far right with the meter... lots of interesting equipment.
Very cool, what's your expected payback time
Very interesting !!! Are you expecting fully independent or partial ? Cost ? Thank you for sharing. Shang.

Since we leasing the gear and not buying we'll see payback right away.
My computer techy friend did the same thing, only he purchased it. He put his entire house on it including his computer lab. He expects payback in five years.

Good for him. This lease program pays us back (non payment to our electric provider) within the first month. We'll save about $600- to $700/year.
Just thought, as promised, I'd update all those interested with our project... completed before 4pm today. Now all we're waiting for in the final inspection by the county and perhaps a company inspector.
Great setup. What does your cost recovery time look like. Do the utilities there pay or give credit for your overage. At your latittude you should get lots of power.
Pretty impressive setup and it actually looks decent on your house. Good luck, I hope a year from now you're patting yourself on the back.
Not being snarky, I'm really curious, should I ever go this way. What happens when you need to replace your roof? Thanks!

I asked a friend about this, or what happens if your roof starts to leak, etc.. He said the company would have to come remove the solar panels. You also have to make sure things are in good shape before you get them in the first place. He said before installation, they went into his attic to see if all the wood was in good shape, or needed extra support for the weight of the solar panels, etc. I don't have an attic or crawl space. Not sure what they could do for me.
But if this ever becomes feasible cost-wise, I'd go for it. Looks great, too. The video shows different homes with different color roof options.

Thanks for the info--pretty much what I guessed. And I'm sure they don't do it for nothing....

Phoenix is the perfect location for solar. I've heard that the state doesn't make it easy for people to install solar.
For me, it would be a waste of money - too many trees and not enough sun. I've gotten my electric bill so low that I wouldn't reach the break even point in my lifetime.

It is not just our lifetimes we should be concerned with. How much natural gas, oil, coal or whatever fuel can be saved over the lifetime of the solar panels?
neither does Nevada. the power companies control the utilities commission.
