Dark prints

I am using a Canon MG/7720 printer. Calibrated computer screens. When the brightness is just right on the computer screen, the prints come out very dark. My workaround is to get the picture like I want it and then boost the brightness by +60 units and that produces a nice print. The color is handled by Photoshop, printer profile is Canon 7700 series, normal printing, absolute colorimetric. Settings are: photo printing, photo paper glossy, high quality, any size paper. These are the settings used on the Canon 8120 before the paper feed went blooey and I bought the 7720. Any suggestions to get correct prints?

Clearly your monitor is adjusted TOO bright. Regardless of what your calibration says. Match your screen brightness to your printers output for proper printing calibration.

Your monitor is projecting light (like viewing a slide on a light table) and your prints are reflecting light, years ago after viewing slides on a light table, we would then view selected slides held at an angle over a white surface with a light reflecting off the white surface to check for exposure. Night and day difference...very similar to today's monitors (projecting light) and actual print (reflecting light), the print if not corrected for usually will print darker than what you see on your monitor.
This is something I do in PS prior to sending to printer, with upper most layer selected, hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E to make a new layer, set that layer to Screen mode, and opacity somewhere between 20-30%. make a test print. My Epson 3880 works best at about 23-25% so you'll have to experiment a bit to find your best percentage. After you print you can either shut off the new layer or delete it. I just hide it if I plan to make addition prints in the future. But to keep file size down...delete it.

I just bought and used the "Spyder 5 Pro" and had the same results. I simply adjusted my brightness to what came off the printer and all is great!.

Thanks for the answers, I'll ignore my Spider results and crank down the screen brightness since it applies to all prints. RMJ

Your DataColor Spyder5PRO may be influenced by ambient room light. Take a look at this new article:
