I forgot about this amusing shot from last Spring.
We watched a Grackle following a male Osprey, hoping to snatch a fish if the big guy caught one.
As the Osprey, without a fish, flew up to the nest, the Grackle lost its nerve when the female came into view from low in the nest. She had been tending eggs.
The moral of the story I guess, is that you don't mess with Mom.

Great shot. Amazing how the smaller birds have the nerve and tenacity to attempt these steals.

Lucky Grackle -- likely knew from experience that Osprey are not very aggressive.
