Nikon TC-20E iii - should it rattle?

I'm looking for someone else with a Nikon-20E iii Teleconverter. I just got one I won from eBay in like new condition. Packaging was great; box and all contents like brand new. But before I even took the cap off I heard rattling and feared something was broken. It's not but there's a loose piece inside the end with the grey cap that slides back and forth making a tinny sound. If you have one please let me know if this is right. I don't want to try it on my 70-200 2.8 until I know it's ok. Thanks!

That’s the aperture actuating lever - it should be snug when you mount it on your camera and lens. It’s normal.

Unmounted, yes, with 'measure'.

Mounted? No.

Thanks again. Works just fine in my backyard with no birds at the moment but the branches look awesome! lol

Post some branch pictures in the gallery - there are enough birds there already!

I have the 1.4 and it rattles just like you described, until it is mounted.

My Nikon 1.4 and 1.7 both rattle. Should your Nikon teleconverter ever fail, they make a great baby shower gift, rattle away.

Yes it rattles! We have two of them and both jingle away when you move them. Apparently quite normal.

Hi Donna. I did the same thing when I got mine. I drove back to the store, 45 miles to get the answer. This site wasn't here yet.:):):) Have fun with your new toy!:):)
