Hello out there!

Can anyone tell me if old (I mean OLD) WWII photos are worth anything? I have lots of family military photos. I will be scanning them as time permits and if anyone would like to see them, let me know.

I would love to see them! I love "old" WWII planes! Are the photos worth anything? Probably not. Of course, if you find a collector, who knows what they could be worth? Sorry.

Hey thanks for the quick reply. It's going to take some time to get all of these in order. I come from a family of military and my uncle passed away 2 years ago. My sister cleaned out the basement and gave me one LARGE bag of photos to go through. That's the HEFTY LARGE (garbage) bag. ;)

These will be of great interest, but only on specific topics/subjects and then only to particular people. They will need sorting into army/navy/air force etc and then by plane/ship etc type and/or date.

Most ships or particular battles, for example, have a following or specific web site and photos are of great interest to these people.

Suggest that you have a go at catergorising them and then make sure that you watermark them before publishing them anywhere. They will then attract interest and you can decide to sell the original photo or a digital copy.

Just on a personal level I wold be interested in anything to do with the sinking of the Bismark or HMS Norfolk.

Good luck

It all depends of content. If the photo shows some important
event during the war, the Library of Congress would be
interested.

Hey thanks for the feedback, I think I have my work cut-out for me. It may not be too soon as I am a travel adviser and I will be doing a lot of cruise bookings for a fundraiser. No sleep for "LadyTravel" LOL

The content of the photo will determine if they have any value, not the photo itself. Images of ID'd people, places and things can have considerable value to others associated with those items or their history. Sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you.
They didn't by chance come with the negatives did they? That could increase values exponentially if you find anything of value.

The National WWII Museum in New Orleans will accept copies of photographs as donations, but I doubt that they will pay, even for originals. Check out their website:

http://www.nationalww2museum.org/

Select the "GIVE" drop-down menu and look for "Donate An Artifact". They have a list of items that they will and will not accept. As of this morning, they are accepting photographs.

eBay.

Several years ago I was given a bunch of "worthless" papers about plumbing in California. They were from the 1920s and 1930s. "Garbage," I thought to myself. But my wise old grandmother taught me to take anything that is offered to me free and then if I didn't want it when I got home to re-gift it or dispose of it properly.

I got a little over $2,200 from selling all that garbage on eBay.

You can make good money with stock photo sites.
If your going to sell them sell prints not orginals.
You can sell them on ebay 5x7 at $5. shipping, check out the listing on there not.
If you sell Them on ebay put a water mark on them.
Print them yourself buy a printer for under a $100. if you need ink http://www.inkgrabber.com
Paper from ebay take you pick.
You have GOLD good luck with it.

When you scan you photos to your PC to a scaned file, then two files. One cory file to sell and one with water mark for your ads. The watermard should be like the one below.
