Chicago at Night

Taking a night photography class and was down by frigid Lake Michigan last night. f22 iso 100 30 second exposure. I like the look but need to work on my focusing a bit. Also I am getting used to using a tripod. I thought it was interesting that the airplane gave me a reverse shooting star.

Just an opinion, you might try f/10 on a shot like this - at least that's what I'd do. I've found that f/10 is a long lens' sweet spot. Don't misunderstand, it's a very pretty shot.

Did you calculate the exposure time or did you use trial and error? I am anxious to try some night photography.

Micheal - we can't really see any detail of this small sized image ... If you post with store original, we can download and view the details.

Nice Color. Depending upon what lens you my have, if it was a zoom, you may have had lens creep after you first focused?

Thank you everyone for your comments and questions.

The exposure time was recommended by the class instructor. As the sun set, I changed the exposure times but stuck with the original recommendations.

The lens used for the shots was a Nikkor AF-S 16-35 1.4 G ED. My favorite wide angle.

I did not know what the store original option was, thank you for letting me know. I have now uploaded the original.

Thank you again.

And now we can see the plane that created the contrail! Thanks.
