I've got my eye on this camera (Nikon D5100). I've been reading on the net about an inherent auto-focus defect in this camera. Can owner's of this camera confirm this or is it operator error?

Geeze, man you are scaring me! I've had one for a couple of months and not had a problem. And I'd better not!

go to popphoto.com click on buyers guide. look for this camera. not only will you get the field tests, but also their lab tests. if this problem is the camera's fault pop's lab would have found it and they would have reported it.

I've had my d5100 for 6 months. The only problems I've had are due to "pilot error".

I've bkmarked that, haven't read it yet. Puzzling that there is so many entries on the web on that subject. Even more puzzling is You Tube video about how to fix that defect.

I wouldn't worry about, the D5100 is a fine camera.

I see your point but it's all over the web from various sources. And on You Tube to show how to fix it.

Sometimes rumors are started by one disgruntled person who had a problem with the camera. I've heard its a real fine camera.

hmmmmmmm, must be a camera problem. I only get about 2 out of 20 photos that are decent, I can't be the problem, I've been using my D5100 for at least 2 1/2 weeks, hehehe. i got to stop drinking city water, getting delusional.
