I am very new to everything and was wondering what kind of camera i should i start with we do alot of kayaking and canoeing and see alot of wildlife and would like to capture the memories to pass down to my grandkids any advice would be helpful thank you

Either the Olympus TG-4 or the Olympus TG 800 series. Or if you also want video too, try the Olympus TG-Tracker.

That is a big, fat, NO. No zoom lens, ultra wide angle, this camera is very small and designed to fit on your head, helmet, bike, kayak, and record most of the action up close and personal. Great little camera the GoPro. It is very much the nitch camera, very, very unique. With this camera you set it up and it records on its own, you usually do not hand hold it, that's why it has a wide angle lens.

Another vote for the TG4. If there's a risk it might get submerged...that's the camera you'll want.

For kayaking and general rough use, I would recommend one of the "tough" series of cameras, like the Olympus Tough. There is a range of prices, and they can be as easy or complicated to use as you want. Here are some links. Check the dates on these articles, and some of them could be a bit old.
