Sounds like a meteor or space junk burning up in the atmosphere. The thing about UFO's is there has never been any unidentified artifact from space exhibited where ordinary people could see it. Lots of photos but never from two angles that would allow accurate geometric measurements.

there is a comet out there getting close to earth, I read about it a few weeks ago. I havent seen anything here about people trying to shoot it.

The comet you are talking about is supposed (or on New Years Eve. was supposed) to be near where the setting sun is but right after sunset but is so dim that the brightness from the moon and Venus make it difficult to see. It is supposed to require the aid of a long lens or telescope and absolutely clear weather to even see a trace of it because it is made up of glowing gas. The OP may have seen this or it could have been space junk etc. I didn't see what he/she was looking through (whether a camera lens or telescope) so this is more guess than anything solid.
