Strike Finder Pro

Santa gave me a Strike Finder Pro to use on my Nikon D7000. It came with the wrong cord and I had to order a cord for the Nikon. Anybody have any tips or techniques for using this with a D7000.
I want to do some sunset or sunrise time lapse and also capture lightening strikes. I live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and have awesome locations to shoot from. Thanx...Gary
