I am trying to make a decision on a Telephoto lens for my 80d.
Does anyone have any experience using this lens and would care to comment?

Thanks,

Is the ii the newer, with quieter auto-focus? Will you be doing video?

I bought the previous model, a used lens from B&H, and have been very happy with quality. Was well worth the $300 price tag

Here are two shots; I use a Canon T3i.

Thank you for sharing the photos very nice for sure,, The ii is pretty new and yes I like to do video. I chose the 80 for its video capability and have been pretty happy with it. I like to toggle back and forth especially when I am recording the grandsons.
The 300 will be for wildlife and such as well. I originally wanted the L but its hard to justify the extra expense.

I have had the old version which I now see B&H has $200.00 off. I gave this camera and lens to my daughter as I shoot just Nikon now, she loves it, I liked it. There are 909 reviews of this lens on B&H, 545 are 5 star, that's really good, and 325 are 4 star. I have not seen anything on the new lens yet so sorry to say I cannot comment on this and my Canon shooting buddies have all gone to the new 100-400.

Decent lens for the money. Slow for indoors. Not L lens quality or price. May want to consider some EF-S lenses too. Might be better bang for your buck.

Best,

I did buy the new Canon 70-300 II lens,. It is sharp, I didn't every have the 70-300 first version, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I am pleased. Probably not as good as the L lens, but for a senior on social security it fits the bill.

I have this lens for some time. I purchased it with my 60D in 2010 - 2011 time frame. It is a good lens. Generally very sharp.

I purchased it for wildlife photos. I found it is good for Macro photography. I have got some very sharp insect shots with this lens. This lens stays on my camera when I am outdoors.

Thank you all for giving me your insights on this new lens.
I am hoping to find one in a shop close by to see in person and hopefully walk out with it.
Have a great 2017.
