I am here to learn but if I don't understand something then I ask questions.

To those that say we can remove haze then yes perhaps there is software out there that can alter the appearance of an image but when folks demonstrate how they have successfully removed this haze, then where is the background that this haze has obscured?

I accept there are quality filters that can eliminate glare or unwanted reflections but surely if we are talking about haze or smog, then we are talking about a 'cloud' that is partially obscuring something? Please note these are questions and I always use a filter as the great majority of my shots are through two layers of very thick glass which tends to try and play havoc with my pictures, so I am a great advocate of using the correct filter to help enhance our pictures.

If we have successfully removed the haze then where is the imagery that was being obscured? (polite question, NOT a criticism)

Should have added that sometimes locations are renowned for this 'haze' and that is part and parcel of the location.

I would think that "haze" is the fact that there is humidity in the air, between you and the subject. It then creates a layer, or a cloud through which you look.

Depending on the position of the sun, your vision is obscured by the reflection and refraction of the light.

Certain filters ( polarizer comes to mind) tend to reduce said reflection.

PhotoShop and other post processing software can enhance contrast, sharpen details ...etc, thus creating effects that look like there was no haze to begin with.

Your background has not changed, it was just clouded up by the moisture in the air.

After it is all said and done, most of that detrimental effect is simply gone.

Thanks Steve40. What program did you use? I like the resulting photo..

The shadow highlight tool in PSE, and a special setting of the Unsharp Mask tool, for local contrast enhancement.
