Thought I would capture the final construction stages of the new Queensferry Crossing.

This is from the Scottish Govenrment web site:

"The Queensferry Crossing is due to open in May 2017. The stunning, globally unique bridge forms the centerpiece of a major upgrade to the important cross-Forth transport corridor in the east of Scotland, representing a total Scottish Government investment of £1.325 to £1.35bn (at 2016 prices). The 1.7 miles (2.7km) structure will be the longest three-tower, cable-stayed bridge in the world and also by far the largest to feature cables which cross mid-span. This innovative design provides extra strength and stiffness, allowing the towers and the deck to be more slender and elegant."

There have been 700 "safety incidents" with just one fatality during the construction so far. A total of 73 workers died during the construction of the Forth Rail Bridge, which opened in 1890, while seven workers died during the construction of the Forth Road Bridge, which opened in 1964.

The New Crossing should have opened in December 2016 but they lost about 6 months due to bad weather.

Once it is complete and the site security is removed it is certain to become an attraction for photographers.

Just one section of deck remains to be fitted.

Nice shots of what is going to become an instant landmark when it is open. Brings to mind Boston's Zakim Bridge that made a spectacular change in the skyline.

Wow, that is quite an undertaking, will it be a tolled bridge?

FrJack, I was thinking the same thing about comparing with Boston's Zakim bridge. Love shots of Zakim when watching news on Boston Channel as well as wondering how to get a shot of the Zakim when traversing it by car.

David, thanks for sharing these interesting shots. I really liked the second one. Maybe someday I will get to see this in real life!
