is there any way to open up the camera on your computer to view your pictures and delete from there. i know there is a tab that says delete all pictures from camera but if i just want to delete a few at a time while viewing them on the computer and not thru the camera viewfinder is that possible? when i say a few really about 800 out of a thousand. i dont want them all gone because i like to keep some of my favorites as a backup. i have a nikon d7000. thanks!

When you plug your camera in your computer, it should be recognized as a drive.
You can delete your photos one at a time just like any other file.
Yup, open up and delete by clicking the file you don't want and then delete.

Right click the image on the screen and click "delete".
Just curious why you want to leave 200 pictures on the camera card. I know some people that fill their cards until they are full and then buy a new card but I usually only hear about this from people that use point and shoots. Most of the serious photographers that own D7000 grade cameras will download all their images onto their computer and sort them out there. Then most people put the card back into the camera and format the card so it's ready to capture a new shoot.

yes, that is true. i am just so worried about losing pics. i do download them all, sort them out. put them on my hard drive and an external hard drive as well. but if something disastrous happened i would like to at lease have my favorites on a memory card as backup. i know memory cards do not last forever and i am not planning on keeping them there forever, just until something better comes along to store them on.it is just for my piece of mind. saying i am not a serious photographer because i do that is a bit rude in my opinion.
so when i open up the pictures , it first says get pictures from your camera, then they are clicked or not clicked to download.there is no option to right click on pics to delete just some. only the delete all pics from your camera. should i try another program to download perhaps. i am just using the regular computer settings.
