I was devastated , to put it mildly, when Apple discontinued Aperture last June, I thought it was the best App for photography in every sense. Lightroom doesn't come close to ease of organizing and editing!
Any thoughts?

Hmmm. I'm still using mine....even after an upgrade.... or do you mean that it is no longer supported?

That is why I stay away from Apple. They drop you like a hot potato. There is a long history of it.

Freddayan - The key to your inquiry are the words "last June". June was six months (180 days) ago. Apple's decision to discontinue Aperture was WIDELY discussed on the UHH Forum at the time and numerous times since. Not clear why you are just now asking your question. You might consider using the excellent UHH Search tool (at the top of this page) and reading the suggestions made previously. Best wishes for a photogenic holiday. /Ralph

I am not an Apple user but I'm also not surprised by your reaction.

Adobe does similar things. In the years I've used Adobe Photoshopm and initially Elements, I found that when Adobe releases a new version they add one or two goodies to seduce you, and they remove at least one feature. In my Elements days the product used to enable me to make menus for DVDs. I built myself a library of these as I went along. Then along came a new release and suddenly it had disappeared. When I complained about that, they told me it sounds like a good idea and that I should submit it as a suggestion for a future release. They never brought back that function.

Photoshop was similar. For instance all the way up to Photoshop three it was possible to make PDF presentation files for sending out slide shows. By release four that function disappeared. When I complained they told me I can do it with Adobe Acrobat. I happened to have that software but making the files through it was painful and complex like hell. Those who didn 't have that software were looking at considerable cost to buy it or the frustration of having lost a feature.

In the software business things like this are not unusual. Even in the hardware business things like this are not unusual. How many lenses do you own that have an aperture ring these days? Where did it go? Well the makers decided they could save a few cents in manufacturing costs by eliminating it. Most people never even noticed I bet, but I noticed because I need that aperture ring when I'm using a bellows.

The problem is that most people are sheep, they simply accept what's coming.

Treasure the things you have and use them as best you can. When one is discontinued don't fret, you can continue to use the one you have. The only problem is that eventually it will be incompatible with a new Windows or Apple OS and then you have lost it. Thankfully though we do have competitors and sometimes they will bring back what we had lost.

I keep all Elements loaded. They don't take that much of the hard disc space.

Well the Lisa was $10,000.00. Not a small potato in 1980's. Kind of gets stuck in your memory. You don't have to be elephant.

I am still using Aperture and have a new Apple iMac. It works just fine. I have added Macphun and they both work great. I am surprised Apple has not sold Aperture.
