I found ONE good reason to use raw + JPG...

When the manufacturer does not give a **** about supporting its client!!!

I purchased a camera for my wife as 'announced' a few treads ago. Well, it has a RW2 raw format and this crap is not supported by anyone generic (Windows codecs, ACDSee) so she has to use Adobe Bridge (damn if I let her use LR).

So yes, I AM GRUMPY TODAY!!!

First and last purchase of a Panasonic camera.

Unless she decides she wants another one.

Maybe a bit of investigation prior to purchase would have avoided such an unfortunate conclusions.

Sorry

Lightroom and Photoshop, so I assume ACR in Elements, support Panasonic RAW files.

It isn't Panasonic's fault that other random software may not.

It should have come with SilkyPix SE. IT IS EXCELLENT. Takes patience to learn, but can do a better job than Lightroom on difficult files.

There are no standard raw formats.

If you have Win 10, the only codecs available are built into the system. Microsoft omitted many cameras from the codec pack, some Panasonic and some Canon. It appears MS just can't be bothered with photographers and their pesky raw files. As MS appear not to be doing anything about the problem, I would expect a 3rd party will bring out a suitable codec in the near future, as they have done in the past.

I put my computer back to Win 7 (clean install), everything works (though I don't think MS have a codec for your Lumix even on Win 7 updates).

SilkyPix is shipped on a disc packed with most Lumix cameras that save raw files. Install it and try it.

Download and install updates, too.

The DMC-LX10 is NOT on Silkypix's supported list, though the DMC-LX100 is supported.

Hmmm. Get a Mac or use Adobe ACR...

Microsoft sells Capture One, so they probably want to steer users that way.

I know that LR and PS are the "cat's meow" and are the way to go for mist photogs. But I got to admit that Mac Photos is pretty good and very simple to use on the Mac. I also use it for post on my ipad when traveling. I shoot in RAW. Not much incentive to master LR anymore.

Today you're grumpy?

I mostly limit my purchases to cameras with five letters in the name.

The Panny didn't come with a disk?

I believe there is a (stand alone) Adobe RAW Converter freebie. I used it at one time on my wife's Windows 7 computer with PSE 9. At the time my old LapTop was still running (yikes) Windows Vista and I could not update anything to Ps CS6 on Vista. Now I have a new Win 10 Desktop and my wife's Computer was upgraded to Win 10 last June. Now I was able to upgrade to a newer version ACR for Ps CS6.

Let your wife come over by me. She can use anything that I have. Are you afraid that she is going to destroy light room. I do not have a wife and would enjoying have one that would be interested in photography. Christmas day and you write a stupid article bashing her and blaming the camera manufacturer.

mmm... Funny that you write this. I do not see myself 'bashing her'. She has been reading this and is laughing.

LR, in my opinion, is basically worthless if she goes into serious editing. Why do you think I went out to find a 'small purse sized' camera that shoots raw? I told her to use my D800e but it was 'too heavy' and 'too big'. It is not the first time I mention her and I am constantly in awe of her achievements even if I get seriously upset when she goes into her 'gardening mode'... She cuts everything she thinks is a 'weed'

Since I take this out of my own photo budget it also means I am not half the @$$ you think I am.

No wonder you have no wife with such limited understanding on what you read. How can anyone live with a real grouch? (NOW I am being an @$$ on this 'special day, Jerry).

By the way, we been married for just about 33 years next month.

I do not need a converter, I have Adobe bridge but I rather use windows than have something else in between that loses its time trying to make 'catalogs or what not I do not need and she does not want either.

As to computing power she has plenty of it...
