I know this should be non photography chat, but I just had to comment on one persons work. The Old Hippy has produced, IMO, the best work I have seen here on the HOG. I really like flower photography and Ed does the best and it does not show over processing as others sometimes do. If I were to hand out awards to any one, The Old Hippy would be my first choice.

Ed and his beautiful understated work have been on my buddy list forever. Definitely worth a shoutout. Nice thought AZ.

Well, you beat me to it. I rarely comment on photos and thought I could live the rest of my life without seeing another flower (or insect or pet) photo until I saw Old Hippy's photos. Each one without exception is a work of art. His work just blows me away. I feel like reaching into my monitor and plucking the flowers, they are so real and lifelike. I don't know how he does it but I'd sure like to learn.

I'd been mulling for weeks posting a well earned and deserved compliment applauding his work and like I said, you beat me to it. It's my personal opinion based on what I've seen, he is the undisputed master of flower photography here on UHH. I should mention that there is another person here whose name escapes me at the moment who is also a first rate, top tier flower expert and whose work is comparable to Old Hippy.

One of the key elements that makes Old Hippy's work so powerful is his masterful handling of shadows. He is not afraid of allowing shadows to go into pure black, void of detail, which adds a powerful sense of depth, dimension and at times, a touch of mystery to his images. One can learn a great deal by studying Old Hippy's photographic works, particularly his managing of shadows.
