Winter came to Maryland Friday night. With it, food and available water for the wildlife to drink disappeared. The birds were abundant in my yard...the light conditions were next to impossible...even at ISO 1000, my shutter speeds were ridiculously slow with the 400mm lens. Here are a few that combined icy surfaces with minimal motion blur. Hope you all have been able to keep safe!

Ice storms are hugely destructive and as you've pointed out, make foraging for food so hard for birds and critters. These are beautifully photographed!

Bob, fantastic shots of your frigid little birds and even though ice storms are so dangerous, they do make for lovely shots!! ....from the inside looking out!!

I like this series. It's so well done.
We've been getting the same awful weather and the birds are not happy, but, we have a big dome above our oil seed feeder and it was busy all day.
