Internet Speeds, what numbers are you seeing on your speed test?

Hi all, Our ISP (Rogers Cable) just upgraded our area to have gigabit internet available, I installed the new modem yesterday and have run a number of speed tests last night and this morning as well as some actually usage tests. The speed tests are showing I am getting 760 to 800 mbps upload and 28 to 32 mbps upload speeds.

I really noticed a difference in checking out the photo gallery and downloading photos, the pictured is painted on the screen very quickly, those shots with the Nikon D810 took the longest (lol) but still it was a steady paint of the screen. Then did some large file saves to an outside server (work related stuff) and the saves are easily twice it not more quicker than before. I had 250mbps service before and then 500mbps service since October in the interim waiting for the gbps service to go live.

Was wondering what speed those with hi speed cable service are experiencing in your areas.

Sure, rub it in! How about 6 Mbps here in rural northern MI. No cable or DSL available.

We have fiber optic service and the speeds are alway around 25 Mbps. Depends mainly where in the house the measurement is made. Router in one room and device in a differnent room. Interesting that the WiFi signal can bend around corners and upstairs as well as it does.

I just checked with Speakeasy,
20 down, 6 up.
Seems good enough for what we do.

I would love to be you! In the mountains of central Vermont my download speed was 12kbps at the lowest and about 378kbps at the highest. When I complained to Hughesnet, they told me that I was actually exceeding what I was paying for. I believe when I signed with them I was supposed to get "up to 10MBps". Never even approached l MBps. Didn't matter what computer I was using. My desktop, various laptops, all had the same dismal speed. I ended up with installing dual monitors so I could play Solitaire while I waited for pages to load. I should have stuck with the phone modem, it was actually faster.

Gbit is coming to our city (Google and AT&T are busy burying and hanging fiber), but we're at 300Mb at the moment. I'm benchmarking about 350Mb down and 24Mb up. In terms of real-world performance, I was uploading some large and smaller (raw) files to AWS (Amazon S3) recently, and I'm seeing about 5 GBytes/hour average on a mix of file sizes.

Ping = 5ms
Download = 47Mbps (bits per second)
Upload = 15Mbps
We are on fibre.

Wow, I wasn't rubbing it in, I thought that the gigabit service would have had a lot bigger installed base prior to me getting it. I started with a 110 baud modem back in the early 80's so I am tickled pink with the advancements that have been made in the last thirty years. I did another test this afternoon and hit 943 on the download. For those that have this luxury of cable or fibre internet I guess we have to count ourselves lucky.

2Dragons, I love the mountains of Vermont that is beautiful country but you do need to start laying fibre or stringing cable lol.

Trix I was at those speeds right up to this October and was pleased with them, you will love the Gbit service when it comes.

I run my business out of my home and have to have the best internet speeds I can get, this costs me about $100 CDN a month with unlimited data which lately due to our falling dollar is about $70 US and it is worth every penny.

Well, we were promised by the present governor that ALL of Vermont would have high speed internet by 2013 if we voted for him. Well, here it is almost 2017, and we are still waiting. As with most every issue in Vermont, it got lost in politics. The one company who could have accomplished it, ECFibernet, wasn't given a piece of the Federal Gov. funding that would have given 27 towns in central VT, high speed fiber optic internet service. They are presently raising their own funding and working very hard to bring everyone, including those of us back in the hills, fiber optic service.

Where I live, only a fortunate few, have anything more than a DSL connection.

I use Mediacom Cable. I pay for 100 Mb/s and 20 Mb/s up. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I run tests on my speed every so often and average the following:

113.3 Mb/s down
27.6 Mb/s up

In my case these speeds are more than sufficient for handling multiple devices streaming HD videos, video conferencing, and gaming at the same time.
