We had an exchange student staying with us ths semester, about teo weeks ago we found he was smoking cigarettes and cigars in the guest bathroom. He would block the bottom of the door with the bathmat and run the ceiling vent so he had been doing it for some time.During discussions about this and his grades with an exchange counselor he admitted to smoking pot as well. He has been sent home, but we now must get rid of the odors. He used a lot of Febreeze so we have that odor as well. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks in advance for you help!

Paint everything with Kilz and treat everything as smoke damage from a fire

Cut about 15 apples in half and put them into an open bowl or leakproof container... close the door and leave it closed over the weekend. The odors should be gone. A car dealer told me this is how they "de-cigarette" a car.

About 7 years ago, we bought a house that was previously owned by smokers. After some online research and recommendations from others, we decided to try using an ozone generator. I don't rember it's cost, but I think it was about $100 per week, maybe less. I moved it around to different rooms during that week, otherwise we totally avoided the place. In the end, the smells were minimized greatly. Supposedly, ozone breaks down the bacteria that creates the smells. One other advantage is that it gets into the places that you cannot get into (cracks into walls, etc.) I rented it at an ACE Hardware place that had tool rentals. You might need to call around to multiple places, as I doubt they are available everywhere. We have since painted all the rooms, but mostly because we like a different color scheme.

an Ozonator. You can rent from a place that rents tools. You close the room off and run for 10 to 24 hours and it releases the bonds that hold the smoke onto objects. Block of the exhaust fan. You will have to air out the room after running it. Don't breath the air. Shut the ozonator off and remove the cover the fan and turn on and crack the door while holding your breath.

We had a similar problem a few years ago in an used motorhome we purchased. We purchased an Ozone Generator from Amazon and were able to root out that deep smoke smell. The manufacture of the generator suggested the smell would be gone with 3 ~ 5 hours of treatment. The actual proved three periods of treatment and 8 or so hours. BUT THAT SMELL IS GONE. :) The device was affordable.

Pour white vinegar in bowls and place on bathroom shelves. Close door and leave for a few days.

I don't know if this will work with smoke. A friend had a deep freeze with fish in it that had been unplugged and was going to throw it away. I brought it home, placed a bowl of charcoal in it. Stink was gone in 2 days.

We used a product similar to kitty litter in porous bags(similar to orange or fruit bags) to eliminate the wet odor after the office flooded a few yrs back, worked fair, but the area was well aired as well. That product was purchased from Home Depot. Another product from Damp Rid will eliminate odors pretty good.
Good luck.
