Why do GOPer's want to eliminate abortion?

I've always asked myself this question but recently saw this and it explains a lot, one being lack of empathy. Sad our fellow human beings don't possess this.

On Tuesday, Ohio lawmakers approved a bill that would ban abortion at six weeks, or when a fetus’s heartbeat became audible. The so-called “heartbeat bill” is one of the strictest in the nation and has the potential to prevent women from getting abortions before they even know they’re pregnant, and it makes no exception for cases of rape or incest.

Republican Representative Jim Buchy was a strong proponent for the bill, which he said would “encourage personal responsibility.” “What we have here is really the need to give people the incentive to be more responsible so we reduce unwanted pregnancies, and by the way, the vast majority of abortions are performed on women who were not raped,” he told Ohio Public Radio.

Buchy is a longtime proponent of restricting women’s access to abortion — in 2012, he told Al Jazeera that his ultimate goal is to ban abortion completely in the State of Ohio. Then, the reporter asked him an interesting question: “What do you think makes a woman want to have an abortion?”

He pauses. Then he says, “Well, there’s probably a lot of reas— I’m not a woman.” He laughs. “I’m thinking now if I’m a woman why would I want to get … Some of it has to do with economics. A lot of it has to do with economics. I don’t know. It’s a question I’ve never even thought about.”

Why would a man ever say that? Why would anyone ever say that? Too much for me to understand...

The short answer is politics and voting blocks. The GOP can only win elections by holding together the traditional coalition of evangelicals, grumpy old bigots, and business interests. The GOP's funders - donor class (the 1% club) - don't have enough votes by themselves. They can only win elections by forming coalitions with large voting blocks, including the gullible and easily excitable evangelicals and fundies. By pushing all these anti-abortion laws, they are able to gin up the base and motivate the evangelicals to turn out and vote so that the GOP can maintain their grip on power. Call me cynical, but I don't believe that the motives for all of these corrupt GOP legislators are genuine, being that they are so scummy and sleazy. Some may be truly motivated by religious nuttary, but just as many are doing it purely to win elections and not because they really believe in what they are doing.

Right. They believe in small government. Small enough to fit inside your bedroom, and inside your uterus.

there are many good reasons to curb "wholesale" abortion. I said "wholesale" abortion not all abortion. for years the "states" banned abortion, everyone touts "states rights". instead of letting the public vote on it, we let 9 dubious judges make the decision for us.a few reasons to ban or limit abortion.

1 we loose about a million new citizens a year and have to import replacements.
2 we depend on our women to help us men retain our humanity. when we allow abortion for "any" reason or "no" reason, the respect for life takes a nosedive.
3 with all the birth control methods avaible today, few women with a little education are up for accidental pregnancy.

Why is it that the same people who keep saying, if you outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns, seem to think that banning abortion will stop it? All they've done here is ban safe abortion.

Is this a joke? You have to be joking, right? Because this is some of the stupidest, most ignorant religious fundie shit I've ever seen. Every one of these indicates that whoever composed them is suffering from an unbelievable levels of ignorance and delusion.

Is "safe abortion" safe for the baby? Safe abortion seems like an oxymoron.

Safe abortion means safe for the future mother. The fetus is killed in an abortion.

I don't get your point. no religion, my points were based on logic.

No, your points were written by someone who evidences an unbelievable level of ignorance and delusion, which are normally the perview of religious fundies who make up their own reality. Let's go through each of them one at a time:

1) "we loose about a million new citizens a year and have to import replacements."

Whoever made this silly asinine assertion is so completely misinformed and clueless, you have to wonder what kind of delusional make-believe reality this person came from.

We have significant population growth every year in the US with the birth rates far above the replacement rates, even while net immigration has been zero for the last 7 or 8 years.

2) "we depend on our women to help us men retain our humanity. when we allow abortion for "any" reason or "no" reason, the respect for life takes a nosedive."

Whoever made this statement is not a woman and has never known any women who have been faced with the difficult decision of whether or not to carry a pregnancy to term. Abortion has been a fact of life for the entire history of the human species. When legal abortions are banned, then back alley abortions and less safe methods of terminating pregnancies become the norm. Outlawing abortions is little more effective than outlawing drugs, and does more harm than good.

To assert that all women who have abortions "destroy our humanity" and "destroy's society's respect for life" is to evidence a complete ignorance and cluelessness about the many complex and individual situations involved in the various reasons women choose to terminate a pregnancy, and to make sweeping generalizations befitting those who don't bother to look too deeply into the issue.

Furthermore, if you are a man who is unable to retain your humanity unless abortions are outlawed, then you apparently have no mind of your own, or you were born with no moral compass. I wouldn't trust anyone whose moral foundation is so flimsy and who has no inherent ability to retain their own humanity.

3) "with all the birth control methods avaible today, few women with a little education are up for accidental pregnancy"

Who are you to arrogate yourself the position of judging and controlling women's decisions about their own bodies, and determining whether the various reasons "accidental pregnancies" happened are sufficient to condemn and take the right of decision away from the women?
