Hi all: Has anyone used these batteries? I am looking to add a couple of spares for my Sony A6500. They are np-fw50. Manufacturers price is about $60 for one. Amazon and other places offer two Wasabi batteries and a charger for $25.

I have all Nikon batteries for my Nikon cameras right now. I tried both Watson and Wasabi (because they were included as the second FREE battery) with my (the Watson at the time) new Nikon D7100 and the Wasabi with my D610 body. Both failed about 6 months to a year and I replaced them with Nikon batteries. The Watson and Wasabi both seemed to only have about 2/3rds of the battery charge/life of the Nikons so I always used them as backups. When they totally failed to charge, I replace them with genuine Nikons (from B&H or Adorama rather than off Ebay or whatever). Both Watson and Wasabi came either from Adorama or B&H so they were genuine as are the Nikons. However, your experience may be better. I just know that if I use "NON-Nikon" batteries in my Nikon cameras and Nikon can prove it, it may void my Nikon warranties. However, Nikon states that if the camera is shipped to them for repair and has a Nikon battery in the camera at the time, they will honor the warranty even if the battery in the camera was NOT the culprit. Yes, I know that they are splitting hairs but this is just a warning to those that are using Non Nikon/Canon/ whoever made the camera batteries to make sure you have at least one correct battery to stick in the camera if you send it in for repair.

Use them all the time. So far very satisfied.

So the price difference is $12.50 each for two Wasabi's with a charger vs @60 for the OEM. As good as the OEM's may be, I doubt they will last five times as long. It looks like a simple economics choice to me!

Remember too, that the OEM's don't make batteries, but purchase them from another manufacturer with the OEM's name on them; it's called private branding, and the customer seldom knows who actually made them, and most likely they are all made to the OEM specs. The cost of engineering and making a separate run of the same batteries would far exceed the savings in cost.

When I bought my Canon 60D about four years ago it came with one Canon brand battery and charger so I bought a private branded spare at 1/5 the Canon price; both batteries are still working fine. The only caution I'd offer is to buy the non-OEM spares from a well known retailer, B&H or similar; they can't afford to risk upset customers for something as cheap as a battery.

I have all Nikon batteries for my Nikon cameras ri... (show quote)

Interesting how one person can have such tales of doom and gloom while the rest of us have great success.

I can get one failure now and then. Happens with the manufacturer branded batteries as well. I don't believe that any camera manufacturers make their batteries. They likely come off the same production lines as the non-branded ones.

But the advice of sending your camera for repair with a branded battery is good. Fortunately I've never had a camera needing repair.

I purchased two of them and a charger (that came with a car plug-in) for $20.99 back in May of this year. Now they have two batteries and a dual charger (don't see a car plug-in, though) for $21.99 on Amazon.

I've tried them and have been disappointed. Especially once the battery has about the 1/2 charge left. I switched the official Nikon batteries, yeah they cost more, but being stuck with out juice was more of a problem.

As I stated, your mileage may vary. That was my experience. I have known several (not on this board) that have had decent results with Non-Nikon batteries. My experience was different. I'm not all doom and gloom, but having worked at Nikon, I do know what their policies are concerning non-Nikon batteries. As I stated, if you have to send in a camera for repair, make sure that the battery is a Nikon (or what ever brand your camera is). It eliminates arguments on their end. By the way, I thought we were discussing experiences with batteries. I gave mine.

I've used Wasabi for the Fuji XT1 and they work fine. No discernible difference in length of charge between those and originals.

Have used them with my OMD EM10 Mark ii with no problems. In fact, they charge faster and last longer than the Olympus that came with the camera.

4 years with go-pro's with no problems and twice the run time. I wouldn't use them in the Canon but that's because the Canon batteries are so good. Wisabi's have larger capacity than the originals they replace.
