Gentlemen and Ladies
I am very interested in the Nikon D750 it seems like a great camera and from the reports that I have read on this forum most of you agree. Here is the dilemma.
I want to buy a D750 but I fear that just as soon as I do that the D750 replacement will be offered. In your opinion how will the D750 replacement be different, what
Though's features will it offer, and perhaps what features will be eliminated. If I (or anyone) had an idea of what the replacement model will be. it would be easier to
decide to purchase the D750 now (some are discounted by $200) or wait for the replacement.
Your though's though's about what features the replacement might have. Thanks so very much for your input.

The answers you want to hear would be based on pure speculation, so do not make any decision on that. If you like the D750 and all what it has to offer, go for it and enjoy it. Whenever a replacement arrives, and you want to upgrade, you can do that at any time most convenient to you. No push!!

UHH member speters is correct about the danger of speculation (and folks from Idaho are no small potatoes). Consult NikonRumors.com

Bridge, how many pictures will you be missing if you don't buy one!
Most upgrades are small ones anyway... sometimes not worth bothering about.
I still use my relatively ancient Nikon D300s and Fuji S5.
Based on your posts, it looks like you have a crop sensored D5100.
Jumping to Full-Frame (FX) could be a big leap in IQ, depending on what you like to shoot.
Do you already have some FX lenses for your upgrade to an FX camera body?

And if the D750 is replaced, what then? The D750 will still be just as good as it was the day before.

This actually happened to me on the Canon side. I had a 6D for years and wanted the improved build and AF features of the 5D3, and finally bought one this past June. Well, 5D4 came out, is probably better in most ways, but I won't be upgrading any time soon except perhaps adding another 6D (I gave mine to my daughter). That camera (6D) is due for upgrade any time now, but I specifically want the old one for its interchangeable focusing screens and am just waiting for the new version in hopes of getting a better price. If I didn't already have the 5D3 or needed the interchangeable screen for a project now, I'd just buy one.

Seriously, how would any of us know what Nikon is planning?

Everything will be replaced sooner or later. So either sit around and do nothing or make a decision and live with it. No one on this site can definitively tell you when the D750 will be replaced. Do you really need to be spoon fed by a bunch of strangers?

Chasing after the latest gear can get real expensive real quick.

Most camera replacements have incremental changes. The difference in imaging making comes more from the photographer than the tool. Waiting is often a method of depriving yourself of making great images. Just buy it and make the frames now.

Check NikonRumors to see what tidbits they have. Also, note camera introductions do not necessarily mean the new models will come out as Nikon hopes. They announced the DL series back in February and they won't ship until next month (maybe).

They put a really good AF system in the D750 and then crippled it with a puny buffer and slow burst rate. And thus, my vote for what the D750 replacement would offer is sustained 10fps burst mode.

And it would be really cool if they added a "Pro Capture" capability where the camera buffered burst frames until shutter press (and then recorded some number of previous frames). This was a feature added to the new Olympus, also available on some other cameras (I think Pentax).

They should also change the remote shutter cable to a round plug and put it in front of the camera so it's easy to attach in the dark and doesn't interfere with use of the camera in portrait mode.

It would also be nice if Nikon standardized on the location of the tripod support and the locking pin so that one anti-twist Arca plate would work on each model.

I also have an issue with their IR remote; it will engage autofocus even if back button focus is engaged on the camera. Which means you have to focus and then switch to manual focus before using the IR remote. Just a pain.

But then, who knows what the price of the new camera would be? The D750 is a good camera, it could be better, but it could also be more expensive. I haven't seen any rumors about it, so who knows when it will come out. I never wait to see if something better is around the corner; you can count on it. If it's not looming, then waiting means you don't really need the new camera.

You are trying to second guess technology. A fool's game at any time. Just buy the camera that meets your needs now. If an improved version comes out in two years you can agonize over not waiting or be glad you are two years smarter and more skilled. This is a game you cannot finesse.

No one knows. If you like the features of the D750 and it works for you, what do you care if a replacement comes out. A replacement will ALWAYS come out, you know that already. I buy new and sell my equipment when it is about 3 or 4 years old, I have accepted the fact that new cars come out once a year and new Nikon's come out about every two years. So your car is 5 years old, does it still get you from point A to point B, OK then. Did you know that most top pro's shoot in MANUAL. So, to them, it doesn't matter when the new one comes out, they just keep shooting until it doesn't shoot anymore and then they get a new one. The only people who care about new camera's are the ones who feel they just can't take a GOOD picture until they have the latest and greatest. It doesn't matter that much to folks who know photography and can create a GREAT photo with a camera that is several years old.

After going through many cameras, I've got a pair of D750s, and I can't imagine what Nikon could offer in a replacement that would tempt me. It has enough MP and enough speed, and I don't need ISO in the million range. I like the tilting LCD. As with everything else, we don't know what we "need" until we see it advertised, but I doubt I'll replace these cameras.

If you knew for sure that the D760 was going to introduced in six months, would you be willing to wait that long? I wouldn't. If you like the D750, buy it. You can always sell it on ebay and get the D760 later.

I've read articles about the replacement cameras. The D620, D760, and the D820. None have been announced. Usually, when a new camera arrives, it is an increase in megapixels, fps, lighter weight, touch screen, or movable LCD screen. And 4K Video. While these new features may appeal to some, many couldn't care less. I'm not against anyone wanting to upgrade. If you can afford it, go for it. Or settle for something still very good, such as the D750. The Nikon D750 was Camera of the Year in 2014 by Popular Photography.
