I am a fly fisherman and I have a lot of vests for that purpose. However, I don't have one that is constructed mainly for carrying a few lenses and filters, etc. I have a backpack that I an use if I am going for a long hike. However, most of my shooting is done on short hikes and walks and I really only need some thing with a few pockets.
There are many brands out there. Do any of you have favorites that are comfortable, easy to access your lenses, and built for durability.
Thanks

I am an avid fly fisherman and have a few Orvis fly fishing vests. One for trout, and another for steelhead and salmon.
For photography I use my Eddie Bauer vest with dozens of pockets, some deep enough for tele lenses and 16oz bottles of water.
Hope this helps.

I do not like vests with lots of pockets! Feeling them to find particular contents with other pockets beneath or above is misleading and make for quite a hunt!

There are quite a few vests out there which are not specifically 'designed' for camera gear but would be entirely capable. Shop around and you can save big bucks. You mentioned wanting room for multiple lenses - not sure how safe a large lens would be protruding from the pocket of a vest (imagining one of Canon's 'Great Whites'). Shop carefully - read specs and reviews closely. Consider travel vests from TravelSmith or Magellan's, work vests from Cabella's, etc.

Thanks for comments so far. I don't intend to carry any long focal lengths. My macro, 35 50 and maybe 16-55.

Jim, I would suggest the Cotton Carrier single camera vest.

I have it and love it and on occasion use it over my fishermans jacket.

How many additional lens can you carry with that particular vest?

I have one of these and like it very much. Not to expensive but lots of room.

It's just a matter of assigning a purpose for each pocket, and sticking to it. For example, pocket #1 is for extra batteries, pocket #2 for CPL filter, pocket #3 for flash unit, pocket #4 for cookies, etc. With an organizational system in place, you don't need to hunt. You already know where it is.

The one I use is the Domke PhotoTogs by Tiffen. Enough pockets for anybody, even a very nice water bottle pocket which is out of the way

Whatever you do, get one in Khaki. Black shows dirt and is warm in the sun.

Tilley Endurables manufacture a great vest. It's based on their old "Vest of Many Pockets"

http://www.tilley.com/canada_en/multi-tech-excursion-vest.html

It's not cheap but it's manufactured in Canada to the highest standards of quality with 16 pockets - 9 outside and 7 inside the vest.

I have a Domke photo vest with almost enough pockets to make you leave your backpack at home but... it was a bit over $125 new, is relatively heavy even before you start adding gear, doo dads, bologna sandwich and such and is hot to wear in the summertime even though well vented. Nice vest and will probably last far longer than I'll be alive.
On the other hand, I have another vest purchased at Bass Pro Shops for about $25 on sale, sturdy construction, fairly lightweight, and well vented. Far cooler to wear in warmer weather. Not quite as many pockets as the Domke but at some point, if you don't need an abundance of pockets, you're just carrying around extra cloth which does add some weight whether you think it does or not. Note that this one is not a fishing vest although I suppose you could use it for that if you choose to do so. This is the vest I usually reach for when traveling or out for birding/bugging.
My suggestion is to take your time and visit a few shops to actually try on different makes and models of vests to see which ones fit best, would seem to be the most comfortable and least restrictive over whatever you commonly plan to wear underneath whether that be tee-shirts or heavy flannels, and pocket wise, have enough room to carry what you think you'd like to take along.
Good luck on your search..

My additional enses go in the pockets of my fisherman's jacket. You can also get another setup on that vest to carry another camera and lens
