It is a full frame lens. It will work on your D7200 with no problems. Your camera being a 1.5 crop sensor will make this lens equal to a 75mm of the full frame

Would I be better off with the 35mm 1.8 ?

I use the 50mm and other FF lens on my D7100, their a little sharper. The 35mm is about equal to a 50mm on a FF camera, but it all depends what you like to shot.

I have the same lens and use it on my 7200 all the time. Good low light lens no problems.

Depends on what you are shooting. Better off in what ways?

If you want something closer to 1:1 go with the 35mm. If you are looking more for a portrait view then the 50mm is a little better. I prefer the 50mm as it does give me a little more reach. I just back up to get wider shots.

ALL Nikon lenses are for full frame cameras UNLESS the lens has "DX" imprinted on it, and even they will mount and function fine on full frame cameras shooting in DX mode.

Good question, Thanks Jim Bob. I'm not a smart man.
