That fire must have been very scary J! The after effects are stark. Hopefully the area will recover and supply you with plant variety you have yet to see. That's what
happened in Yellow stone several years ago. Hope your home was spared!

Thanks for your concern, JJ. Yes, the house was ok, but we had to re-landscape. Tire marks of fire trucks on the driveway. We were evacuated and thought it was just a precaution (2nd time since we lived here), until we got back and noticed a few things missing, like all our junipers and parts of a retaining wall. The neighbor snuck in and caught a pic of our bush burning near the street, completely on the opposite side of our house and the fire (see below). Slowly, the trees around the lake have been dying off and falling over. Someone keeps coming in to clean out the dead wood. Some trees still leaf out in the spring, so it is interesting to see what happens year after year.
