My first attempt at making an image from a RAW file taken with the new Sony A99ii

I have been playing with various lenses and learning how to use new programs to convert the raw file. My favorite programs like DxO OpticsPro and LR have not been updated yet to know about this camera.

I downloaded a program called “Capture One Ver. 10” just so I could convert a RAW file and see if I could improve on it. I could not. This is my first raw conversion attempt. I will not do more until the software catches up to the camera.

I used one of my better lenses to take the attached image:
CZ 24~70mm f/2.8 (set at 35mm)
ISO=200
f/4.5
1/10 seconds (with anti-shake on, hand-held)

I sent this image full sized to better evaluate it. Notice the detail in the printed music. This camera does seem to focus very quickly. I love the view finder on this camera. I do not need to remove my glasses to see everything.

Sorry, but there is no detail. Everything is blurry when looking at the full size image. There is no EXIF data but it looks like your shutter speed was too slow so there is motion blur and a lot of noise since your ISO was high.
If you want to see good detail in a photo like this you should in the same example put your camera on a tripod and use a shutter release or self times. You could then also lower the shutter speed to use a lower ISO. Since there is no EXIF info again I have no idea what Aperture you used. You might be able to use a smaller Aperture as well to increase shutter speed and/or lower ISO.
When the picture is the size showing here, it does look good but unfortunately, not larger.

I agree with mkaplan519. I've seen many of your photos, most of which are much better than this.

One thing on the side, when I bought my organ, the fella that set it up told me not to put it on an outside wall. The condensation would effect the electronics as would the constant change of temperature. It looks like a fine instrument. Do you play?

ignoring the nasty motion blur, that little sony takes a fine picture.
You'll get much better results limiting your hand holding to 1/50th or faster.

No I don't play but my wife does. That electric piano has been in that spot for about four years, no problems yet but I'll look into what you said. Thanks.

I was not attempting to take a prize winning photo. The camera is brand new and I was deliberately pushing the limits to see what it could do. 1/10 of a second hand held and you don't notice the motion blur until you blow it up? I'm happy with that.

I just returned to house after taking a bunch outdoors photos. It's a horribly cloudy today. The sky is gray lead from horizon to horizon. Nothing is casting a shadow. there is a fine mist in the air. I jumped the fence onto my neighbors property. He has cows and some prize winning horses. The cows are funny. They all turn and look at me, standing like statues, and staring at me like I'm to most fascinating thing they ever saw. I'll post a few farm photos on a separate thread if any are interesting.

I'm happy with this camera.

It was clear enough so that I played it, right off my laptop. Now, it's obviously someone's excellent arrangement of Arkansas Traveller, but who wrote it?

The arrangement was by John Thompson, book four.
