Donna, if this is only a few files that this is happening to, it sounds like those files may be corrupt. They could have become corrupted when you imported them into LR. How are you importing the files? Are you importing directly from the camera, or taking the card out of the camera and inserting it into a card reader in the computer? I had a similar problem quite a few years ago when I hooked the USB cable that came with the camera directly from the camera to the PC. I have always been told and have also read that it is best to import files by inserting the card into a card reader, as importing with the card in the camera into LR could cause problems. Also, do you reformat your cards after you import the files in LR and before using them again? Reformatting will make sure that the card is completely clean, that all data is removed from it and can also reduce the risk of data corruption. Just erasing files from a card does not clean all file data from it, and can possibly lead to files becoming corrupt.

I have never used the USB cable, Vince. I have always imported with the card directly via LR until the card reader stopped working. Then I started putting the card into a card reader and into a USB port. I always reformat my cards after every job or excursion. Thanks for your reply.

As for drivers not working, I downloaded one of the "free" driver check and updater programs shortly after upgrading to Windows 10. The updater worked fine up to a point then Microsoft and the hardware companies got their acts together and got the newer drivers out. I also seemed to be getting some virus hits. I uninstalled the virus updater, went back to all of the hardware manufacturers for my computer and got the UPDATED FOR WINDOWS 10 versions of the drivers and haven't noticed any hardware giving me trouble. I uninstalled it prior to doing the hardware driver updates and everything "seems" to be working normally. Lightroom giving the stopped working message seemed to quit this last week so I don't know where it was coming from. I also went through and did something that we're not "supposed" to have to do. I optimized the data on the c: drive. It took hours to do but it seemed to help.(I don't know if it really did anything to help or I just feel like it did because I expended the energy to do it.

That sounds like a LOT of expended energy, dcampbell! Not sure I'm up to all that. May have to try Microsoft since we have that coverage. Thanks for your reply.
