Hi,

Wondered if anyone had any experience in using this .

Cant seem to find third party reviews. The blurb on their website etc states wonderful results , no effect on image etc. Difficult to believe. Its also only about $60 so very interested but......

Their web site makes it look good. No surprise there. The price is good, considering the alternatives, but you could also use $10 extension tubes. If they have an easy return policy, it might be worth taking a chance. Then you can report back to us.

Not that it means anything as far as optical performance is concerned but it appears to be well made from a mechanical standpoint.
I'm interested because I have the same set up they used for the photos on the web site, A77ii and Sony 70-400.
I have a good macro lens (Sigma 180mm) but it would be nice to have something small like this I could carry when I'm out with the 70-400mm
It could be quickly added/removed for a macro shot or two. I didn't see any specs such as +1, +2 or +3, did I miss them?

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for that. The last of reviews is a worry but I was dreaming that the "reviews" would be correct and that having something that screwed into the front of the lens would be more convenient that fitting extension tubes. I just can't believe that putting more glass in front of the lens will not alter the quality.

Hi,

The ease of use is something that appealed to me as well, but the lack of specs and performance claims caused me concern , hence looking to see if fellow Hoggers had any experience.

Generally speaking, putting more glass anywhere front or back (TCs) will affect quality. The only question is 'how much'.
I routinely shoot macro with a 1.4X TC and am happy with the quality although I'm sure if I did a pixel level comparison with and without the TC I would see some difference.
The TC is the same brand (Sigma) as the lens and is rated as compatible by Sigma.

Where did you see the $60 price?
Everywhere I've look list the price at around $170-$180.

Hi,

Thanks , I just can't see how the image cannot be affected when more glass is involved, they seemed to be claiming the dream

Hi

It was part of a review , that I think was written by the vendors , don't remember seeing $170 so I could not have been looking at the correct place, was probably looking at the shipping costs !

It's very confusing, now when I did a search I found prices from around $65 to $104.
this time I didn't see any of the $170 range prices????
I might be willing to try it for $65. None of the big on line shops, B&H, Adorama, etc. seem to carry it however.

NiSi 77 mm close-up lens: http://www.nisidigital.com/en/media/show/813a146a-c249-cf42-09a4-08cfdec456d2
This type of lens is known as an 'add-on' or 'diopter' close-up lens. I own and use a Raynox M-150 'add-on' close-up lens, diopter power 4.8. Attached to my Nikkor 105G, I can capture 2:1 mag.

from your link
Left: Not installing NiSi 77mm close-up lens , shooting at minimum focus distance (magnification is about 1:1)
Right: Installing NiSi 77mm close-up lens , shooting at minimum focus distance (magnification is about 2:1)
Bottom: Compared with 100% partial screenshot of real shot sample, there are no differences between the two pictures expect a little decline in acutance. But don’t forget that the NiSi 77 mm close-up lenses improve the magnification about 0.2 times. So the image quality is ok if we are not strict to acutance.

it isn't easy reading but it seems to be a 2 element coated diopter i think they are saying that with the lens they are using it can already get 1:1 magnification (life size at minimum focusing distance ) and 2:1 twice life size with the diopter attached.

If the IQ is good it shouldn't lose light like a rear extension tube would. Better than the single element diopters you see on ebay but isn't the lens they are using also a macro lens going 1:1 as is?

I use the Canon 500D on the Canon 300mm f/4L and the Tamron 70-200mm F/2.8 with very satisfactory results. The price of the 77mm is >$100./ Sometimes can be picked up at a good $ on eBay.

I fancy giving it a go but somehow know that I am going to be disappointed.

The 'purchase online' link on the Nisi site takes you to the Nisi store on the UK Amazon site.
The just describe it as "NiSi Lens for Camera' and the price is 74.99 British Pounds.
