Besides the 24 versus 42 megapixel difference, is it worth getting the 7rii or just keep on using my 7r?

Here's my list of comparison sites.

Read comparisons and specs, and decide what features are important to you.

Perhaps if you are printing murals of Macro images. Noting the IMCOMP site: The results to my eyes are pretty much what I might expect based on 42MP vs 24Mp for the Sony 7rii vs Sony 7r. No personal with mirrorless cameras (yet). In comparing to more conventional models I found that the Pentax K-1 and Nikon D810 at 36MP fall right in the middle.
Several interesting sites there.

The Sony A7R is 36MP, not 24. It used the very same sensor as the Nikon D800, D810 AND the Pentax K1 cameras

I have the Sony a7II 24 MP. What do you think versus the a7rii? Am on the fence?

Obvious differences apart from Pixel count
In body stabilisation
14bits per pixel
399 focus points (against 79)
Backlit Sensor gives more DR, better Tonal Range and colour sensitivity
Stronger body

Great Camera!

The A7r had a terrible and well-known shutter vibration problem. Google that for the explanation. So get the A7R2. If you don't want all the pixels then get the A72. Both are great with quiet shutters and no vibration.

I seem to recall the shutter problem was caused by two problems. Firstly, it was not dampened. Second, there is not an electronic front curtain. So the shutter is open so you can see the image and when you take the pic, it first closes. Then it opens and closes for the pic and then opens again so you can see for the next pic. That is 4 movements and defeats the point of being Mirrorless.

I read an article recently about the future announcement of the Sony a7r3, estimated for 2017. Quarter of that year unknown?

I have both the A7r and the A7rii.
Apart from the shutter noise, in the field there is little difference if I shoot at 1/250 or faster. I have seen no evidence of shutter vibration in the A7r. I shoot mostly wide angle and have my pictures printed at 30 by 40 inches or larger. With Zeiss glass, both cameras are wonderful. The real difference probably lies in the ibis, and the price. If you shoot mostly hand-held, you probably want the A7rii.

If I could have afforded it, I would have gotten an a7Rii rather than an a7R. It's much more than just an extra 6MP.

Of course, now there's also the new a7Rii in an a-mount with superior focus and frame rate, also know as the a99ii.
