Storing your memory cards?

Like many of you, I have a massive number of SD cards of varying capacities, and ages. I currently store them in a small plastic storage box. They are not in their original individual plastic protective containers, but loose in this storage box. Assuming that they are not becoming physically damaged in this box(which they are not), is there really any harm having them all in there together(touching one another)? To date, I haven't noticed any issues.
As a matter of habit, I always delete them before putting them back in the camera. But I don't "always" delete them before storing them in the box.
Thanks for any thoughts and/or expertise.

Bob

No, so long as they're not reproducing.

Bob, the cards are extremely durable. You may scratch the contacts, but not enough to hurt anything.

You worry too much, BobT. If only more things were as durable as memory cards!

I use a Ruggard case that holds 8 and really like it.

Thanks folks. I happen to have 3 different memory card cases that I fill and take when going out to shoot. But still have many cards that don't often get to go on the outings.

Really, the only downside for using my plastic box for storage is that I probably tend to use the cards on top over the ones on the bottom of the box. I need to change that.

I use the Pelican storage case. For $16, they are a steal, being a hard case and water proof and fits into almost any pocket in a camera bag. Couldn't have a safer container. The info to find it at B & H is below.

I use CD envelopes, they are cheap to buy and very slim so you can store quite a lot in a small place. Also you can write on the envelopes what is stored on the card.

They are more durable than I ever I managed. I sent a SD card thru a washer cycle; and of course the dryer cycle. That was several weeks ago, and so far no issues.

I use a special plastic box that no only separates them but also allows you to put a label on each one. I can store ten in each box. I keep my SD cards active, ie. full. I label each one with a number and date. For example, my first SD card of the year has a 1 with a dash and year, so the first one this year would be 1-16 and so on. That way I can keep track of them. My best shots are loaded on to two flash drives (thumb drives) for safe storage and for reprints for shows.

Not many cards come in those little cases anymore. I have several of these. They're great.

I now have several Memory cards. I have annual MRI exams and I wonder if these powerful magnets have affect on these cards. The magnets are now up 3 Tesla power. Magnet strength will probably increase in the future.
