Every year at Thanksgiving, we have a very large family get together, and enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving feast. Unfortunately this time, one of ou elderly family members, Uncle Bob, keeled over with a massive heart attack (we think). Anyway, he was dead. This saddened us greatly, but as we all stood around the dining room table, we decided that Uncle Bob wasn't going anywhere and we did not want to waste the food.

Uncle Bob and Aunt Marge were not very well off financially and were living on Social Security. They were still driving their 1970 Ford Maverick that they bought used in 1975. We knew that Aunt Marge had no money and a burial was out of the question. Even a cremation would be rather expensive at around $2,000.00. So, instead of watching the football game as was our tradition, we put our heads together and got on the internet to see what the laws were about a DYI cremation. We found no Federal, State, or local laws that said that we could not since we were not a business, therefore not liable for any type of regulations. We did see laws about something to do with the desecration of a body, but we figured that did not include what we were about to do even though we would be chopping up uncle Bob for preparation for cremation.

So, without further ado, here is our story as told in photos. May Uncle Bob rest in peace.

5 year old Joshua understands the concept of death and offered to help bury Uncle Bob. We had to explain to Josh that city ordinance does not allow for backyard burials.

We rigged up a bellows so that we could get the fire temperature up to 1200f. We read on the internet that 1200f was required for proper burning of a body.

After putting the last piece of Uncle Bob in the pot, we had to go to the store and buy a super size coffee container to put the cooled ashes in.

We all had a glass of wine together as a final tribute to Uncle Bob.

Yeah, his portions were eaten. There wasn't much of anything left. We were too busy taking care of "ol Bob to watch the game.

You are one sick puppy 😁😁😁! You really had me going for a minute or two. Having had two heart attacks and being rushed to the ER from a party, I could really imagine it happening. I was having one of those OMG moments when I got to the 70 Maverick still running that I immediately realized it had to be BS 😀. Tom , sorry about your Uncle Bob.....Glad to hear that you had a nice Thanksgiving under the circumstance....You gave us a great story about your Uncle Bob , I know feel as thought I have known him myself.....I feel bad that his family is kind of short on funds so to maybe help, I'm going to set up a go-fund-me page in his memory for me to get over the sadness of your loss......
