I'll just join the chorus here in favor of Crucial. I've used Crucial RAM upgrades for PCs and Macs over many years with no problem. I'm running my Mac mini with 16 GB of Crucial RAM off a 512GB Crucial MX100 SSD at the moment. I've read that RAM problems can be extremely vexing. It's not the place to pinch pennies.

Check your manual. Sometimes certain motherboards don't work with certain types/brands of memory. Not always, but sometimes, so it's important to check, just to be on the safe side.

i got on the crucial sight last night (same prices as newegg and Amazon)

They suggested 2 different ram speeds for the max 16gb. All other sights, including the Lenovo sight, suggested the slower speed and never mentioned the faster one. For $20 more, I'd be willing to spend the money if it is worth it?

Would there be any noticeable difference, or would faster even make a difference? Not sure if there is a maximum speed the computer can read/write to RAM (or however it works?) Both are configured the same, just one is rated faster.

It depends at what speed your computer can drive the ram. No point in paying for more than your computer can take advantage of. Check the manual, look up the model on the web for details, or post the make and model here and we may be able to check. It is all in the details....

If all that is different is speed the faster ram usually runs fine at the slower speed, but you can't run slower ram at a faster speed reliably. The faster ram is often priced lower than the slower ram and older technology gets more expensive as it becomes obsolete.

Sometimes technology changes for the better e.g my macbook pro was designed for 8gb as 2 x 4gb but it can take 2 x 8 and use it. The next version can only use 8gb with osx but can run windows and linux with 16gb. Mine has been tested with the slower ddr sodimms with 2 x 8gb but its unknown as to if it can take the faster ram. This is where you need a friendly supplier who is willing to let you try it :)
To be fair there isn't that much difference in cost to make it worth gambling if you can't return it if it doesn't work and sometimes the sodimm is defective when you get it.
