Why? A CS6 PROBLEM

Hi. Often but not always when I am done working on an image in PS6 and save it to the desktop (Windows 7) it appears on the desktop as a white sheet of paper with the top right corner folded down. When I drag & drop it back into cs6 it says "not a recognizable image". If I drag it into PAINTSHOP 6 it opens and the will save to the desktop as a jpeg, which is how I thought I had saved it originally in CS6. Thanks

Is the exporter in CS6 messing with the file extension?

That's happening because the desk top doesn't host photos as far as I know... but a link to get to the photo in it's original folder.

".....it appears on the desktop as a white sheet of paper with the top right corner folded down...." - That sounds like a desktop link to me.
